Are you going to London soon? There is a lot to do in this city. In this blog, City trip London: practical tips, we give you the insights to make your stay enjoyable.

You've probably never heard of Timișoara. Don't worry, you're not the only one! Still, this city in western Romania is a hidden gem that you absolutely must discover. In 2023, Timișoara was one of the European capitals of culture, and for good reason. With its colorful squares, historic buildings, creative hotspots and relaxed atmosphere, the city has everything you need for a surprising city break.

Sights & activities

1. Union Square (Piața Unirii)

The beating heart of the city. This colorful square is surrounded by baroque buildings and cozy terraces. A perfect place to taste the atmosphere of Timișoara.

2. Explore the streets around Union Square

The small streets surrounding the square are full of surprises. In summer, there is even a street decorated with hundreds of colorful umbrellas, a must-see!

3. The Rose Garden (Parcul Rozelor)

A haven of peace in the middle of the city. This garden, especially in blooming season, is a picture and great for a leisurely stroll or to settle down for a while.

4. Victory Square (Piața Victoriei)

One of the most famous places in Timișoara, with beautiful monumental buildings, a fountain and lots of liveliness and stores.

5. The Orthodox Cathedral

The icon of the city. Both the impressive exterior and the richly decorated interior make this cathedral worth a visit.

6. Walking, running or biking along the Bega Canal

The canal offers a beautiful route for a leisurely walk, a running session (as I did) or a bike ride with stunning views.

7. Explore street art

The city is an outdoor gallery full of impressive murals and artwork. Perfect for a walk where you will be surprised at every corner.

8. Faber Community

For those who love art, design and a creative vibe, Faber is the place to visit. In addition, you can find many social entrepreneurs here.

9. The Revolution Museum

Delve into Romania's history and visit the Revolution Museum (Muzeul Revoluției). This small but impressive museum tells the story of the 1989 Romanian Revolution, which ended the communist regime. Personal stories, photographs and videos bring this important period to life in an impressive way.

Food and drinks in Timișoara

The city has several restaurants to offer with good food. From traditional to modern, these were our favorite places:

  • Casa Bunicii: Authentic Romanian food in a warm and homey atmosphere.

  • La Focaccia Timisoara: A great place for fresh focaccia and other Italian delicacies.

  • Naru: Modern with an Asian twist. Perfect for a sophisticated culinary experience.

  • Coffee Rize: The hot spot for coffee lovers. Relaxed atmosphere and delicious coffee.

  • Brewno Coffee: An intimate cafe where you enjoy top quality specialty coffee.

Timișoara has everything: history, culture, culinary surprises and a creative vibe. Because the city is not yet overrun by tourists, your visit will feel authentic and unique. If you're looking for a new city break destination, Timișoara comes highly recommended.
