In this guide, we give you tips for a 4-day city break to Marrakesh and its surroundings. From exploring the colourful souks to relaxing in a riad and a day trip to Essaouira-all with handy tips for travelling with allergies. So you'll make the most of your trip, worry-free!

 

How to get there?

 

​We flew from Eindhoven to Marrakesh in 3.5 hours. From the airport, it's about 20 minutes to the city centre. There are no cars in the medina, the old town, so your taxi will drop you off as close to the hotel as possible.

 

​​Where to stay in Marrakech?

 

We stayed at Riad Darino, a great riad in the medina. The riad is on the side of Jardin Majorelle. You can do a lot on foot so staying in the medina is really recommended, but the medina can be overwhelming with all the narrow streets.

 

You can add breakfast to your stay at Riad Darino and it was delicious. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace in good weather and they cater for allergies. You can even order a gluten-free breakfast! You can also do a cooking class at Riad Darino. We made a chicken tagine with side dishes and a delicious dessert.

What can you do in Marrakech?​

​​

• Jardin Majorelle: a beautiful garden where you can take a break from the crowds. You can also visit the Yves Saint Laurent museum here. 

• Medina and souks: discover the colours and scents of Marrakesh. Don't forget to buy souvenirs, there are plenty of beautiful things to find here!  

• Discover Marrakesh tour: we did this tour with Sultan travel. It allows you to see all the highlights of Marrakech. You walk through the medina with an experienced guide and learn a lot. Highly recommended!

• Badi Palace: this palace is not to be missed. The remains are beautiful and it has a large courtyard garden.

• Ben Youssef Madrasa: an old Koranic school with beautiful architecture.

• Bahia Palace: this palace is also a feast for the eyes!

• Saadi tombs: beautiful tombs worth a visit.

• Secret garden: an oasis of peace in the busy medina.

We can't imagine it, but have you had enough of Marrakesh? Then there are plenty of other fun things to do in the area. We went on a day trip to the Agafay desert. The desert is 40 minutes from the centre of Marrakech. You can quad ride here and experience a dinner show with delicious food. They take allergies into account and this whole day is really an incredibly fun experience.

 
It is also great fun to go to Essaouira for a day. A very pretty town on the coast of Morocco. Walk through the medina here and shop in all the cute little shops. Essaouira is also called the kingdom of cats, so you can see lots of cute cats here too. Relax on the beach and head to the port. You can rest at the Salut Maroc restaurant or have a drink with some goodies at Pumpkin Essaouira.
