Discover the beautiful surroundings of Ao Nang

Ao Nang is a tourist town on the coast in the south of Thailand. It is the perfect base for tours to the most beautiful islands or to Railay beach. But there is also plenty to do and see in Ao Nang and the surrounding area! We thought it was highly recommended. Discover the beautiful surroundings of Ao Nang with our tips!

How do you get there?

We left Khao Sok with a shared taxi to Ao Nang. This took us about three hours and the taxi cost 600 baht per person. That's about €16. You can also fly to Krabi and from there you can reach Ao Nang by taxi within half an hour.

Where and how long will you stay in Ao Nang?
We stayed at COSI Krabi Ao Nang Beach and thought this was a very nice place! They have a large lobby where you can also buy snacks, a swimming pool on the roof, a gym and it is located in the street with all the nice restaurants. We stayed in Ao Nang for three nights and we thought this was sufficient. We rented a scooter for a day and discovered the area, did a boat tour and went to Railay beach.

What can you do in Ao Nang?

We rented a scooter for a day and drove to the Tiger cave temple. The temple is about half an hour by scooter. We climbed 1260 steps and at the top you have a beautiful view! You can also go to the Emerald pool and Blue pool, two natural water sources that are bright blue. These sights are an hour and a half drive from Ao Nang. You can go here by taxi or tour or you can take the scooter, but it will take a little longer. You can of course also rent a scooter and go for a ride. This way you can also discover the beautiful surroundings of Ao Nang!

Railay beach
From Ao Nang you can also take a taxi boat to one of the most popular beaches in the area, Railay beach. On the boulevard you can buy a ticket for the taxi boat and it leaves when there are enough people. This usually does not take long. For the return journey, you can walk to one of the boats and then you will be directed to a boat that goes to your destination. Railay beach is a beautiful beach with rocks protruding from the water. Railay beach itself can be busy, but you can also walk a bit to Phra Nang beach, where it is a bit quieter. It is definitely recommended to go here, because despite the crowds it is beautiful and you can relax here.

Boat & Beyond
Another really fun activity we did was sailing with Boat & Beyond . This is a private tour with a large longtail boat, which takes you to beautiful islands where you have a picnic on the beach. We opted for a half-day tour to Hong Island, Hong Lagoon and Koh Lao Lading. It is a more expensive activity, but we really enjoyed it for once and highly recommend it!

Where can you get a good meal?

Cafe 8.98

Cafe 8.98 was our favorite restaurant in Ao Nang for breakfast, lunch and dinner! You can create your own bowl with rice or quinoa, for example, and they have many more tasty options on the menu. You can eat well here if you have an allergy or intolerance. They even have gluten-free bread!

Tan hostel x cafe

A nice place for breakfast or lunch! Be sure to try the smoothie bowls, they are delicious. If you have any allergies, please let the staff know.

The Brightside bistro

This bistro is a nice place for a good cup of coffee, breakfast or lunch! They put on the menu which dishes are vegan or vegetarian or how you can make them vegan or vegetarian.

The Coffee Club

The Coffee Club has several branches throughout Thailand, so fortunately there is always one nearby! They have an extensive menu with many tasty options. We can also recommend the iced latte and mango passion fruit frappe. You can also take these with you.
