Hotspot Guide: Sevilla

Posted on October 21, 2023

In this Hotspot Guide: Seville we share our favorite spots in this beautiful authentic Spanish city, where flamenco, tapas and beautiful architecture are everywhere.

Alcazar

If you go to Seville, you can't miss a visit to the Alcazar! This masterpiece of Moorish architecture offers an abundance of beautiful courtyards, lush gardens and enchanting halls. Stroll through the lush gardens full of orange trees and fountains and discover the treasures of the palaces. Make sure you book a ticket and time slot online in advance because the palace is popular!

The Cathedral of Seville

Seville Cathedral is not just any church; Even for someone who doesn't like visiting churches, I was impressed. Because the cathedral is enormous! The cathedral houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus and features the Giralda Tower, a remnant of the original mosque that stood here. Climb the Giralda Tower for panoramic views of the city. You can also purchase a ticket online in advance for the Cathedral and the tower.

Plaza de España and Maria Luisa Park

Make your way to the enchanting Plaza de España, a beautiful square that will remind you of a fairy tale. Surrounded by a moat, this semi-circular square is decorated with colorful tile mosaics representing the provinces of Spain. And the best thing about the square is the 'free' flamenco performances. Settle down on one of the stairs and enjoy the shows of the best street musicians and dancers. Then take a stroll through the adjacent Maria Luisa Park!

The Santa Cruz Neighborhood

The old Jewish quarter, Santa Cruz, is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed houses and hidden squares. Wander through the winding alleys and discover cozy tapas bars, boutiques and charming squares. Santa Cruz is the perfect place to book your accommodation. For example, we stayed in Santa Cruz apartments, part of the Halo Boutique Hotel .

Torre del Oro and a walk along the Guadalquivir river

The Torre del Oro, or Golden Tower, is an iconic tower that overlooks the Guadalquivir River. The tower now houses a maritime museum. Take a walk along the river and enjoy the rowers on the river and the cozy bars.

Plaza de Toros
A visit to Spain is not complete without an insight into traditional bullfights. Plaza de Toros is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain and offers insight into this controversial tradition. We did not go into the arena but admired the building from the outside.

Metropol Parasol

Our final hotspot is a tribute to modern architecture in Seville. Metropol Parasol , also known as “Las Setas” (the mushrooms), is an impressive wooden structure that dominates the city skyline. It offers a viewing platform with breathtaking views of Seville. Visit Las Setas both during the day and in the evening. In the evening the building lights up in different colors!
