Algarve: a wonderful place
Posted on June 12, 2023
Are you planning to go to the Algarve in Portugal? It is a beautiful region with beautiful beaches, nice villages and good restaurants. Read on to find out what you should not miss!
Accommodation
We stayed in Lagos at the Carvi Beach Hotel which is located at the top of Praia de Dona Ana beach. A beautiful hotel with a rooftop pool. The centre is a 15 minute walk, so for us the perfect place to stay! We also stayed in Cabanas, near Tavira at the Pedras da Rainha holiday park, a lovely place near the beach.
Beaches
The Algarve is known for its beautiful coastline. Our favorite beaches are Praia de Dona Ana, Praia da Marinha, Praia da Cabanas and Praia do Camilo. Please note that the beaches around Lagos are only accessible by stairs, as they are located between cliffs. This makes the beaches extra beautiful! Praia da Cabanas can be reached by boat from Cabanas and is a beautiful beach where you can lie down on a sunbed.
Activities
There are plenty of things to do in the Algarve! Lagos is a very nice city to walk through. Walk through the narrow streets and discover all the squares, restaurants and shops. You can also walk along the old city walls. You can also kayak along the coast, highly recommended! This way you can see the beautiful beaches from the water and of course there is time to rest on one of those beaches. A visit to the most beautiful part of the Algarve, Ponta da Piedade, is also a must! In high season you can take a train from Lagos to Ponta da Piedade and otherwise you can take a taxi. Here you can find more information about the train . We walked to Ponta da Piedade from our hotel and came across many beautiful things along the way, so if you have the time we can definitely recommend it. It is also nice to visit the beautiful town of Tavira. Definitely walk to the castle, from there you have a beautiful view over the town. Do you want to do something active? Then walk the Seven Hanging Valleys trail, a beautiful walk along the coastline. Don't miss the towns of Carvoeira and Portimao. And if you want to taste real Portuguese wines with matching dishes, do a wine tasting at Algarve Gourmet.
Restaurants
Plenty of restaurants in the Algarve! Our favorite in Lagos was Casa do Prego. A cozy restaurant with delicious food. The tuna steak is recommended! Tasca do Kiko is also a very good restaurant. This restaurant is not in the center, but in the harbor of Lagos. The restaurant The Garden is a very nice place for a snack and a drink. And do you fancy a hamburger? Then go to Nah Nah Bah! In Cabanas you should not miss the restaurant Dona Inez, a restaurant where you can grill your own meat or fish at the table. Near Praia da Marinha you will find the restaurant O'Rustico and this is a great place for lunch.
