Here on the coast: 6 tips!
Posted on June 10, 2023
The Dutch coastline is known for its beautiful beaches and picturesque dune landscapes. For years we have been going to two coastal towns in particular for a day at the beach: 's-Gravenzande and Hoek van Holland! In addition to a lovely sandy beach, these seaside resorts also offer a number of cozy beach bars. Where you can cool off and where you can of course have a delicious lunch or dinner. Here on the coast, 6 tips to make your beach day unforgettable.
's-Gravenzande
When we go to the beach of 's-Gravenzande, we almost always go to Vlugtenburg. Slag Vlugtenburg is a pleasant family beach. Please note that it is a fifteen minute walk from the parking lot to the beach. You can park for free for the first two hours. In summer you pay eight euros for a day ticket. Do you visit the beach with your dog? This can be done all year round! Just keep in mind that the dog is allowed to run free on the south side in the summer.
Daylight saving time
The first beach bar you encounter when you walk from the parking lot to the beach is Summer Time ! The perfect pit stop for an ice cream and at the same time the place to rent your beach bed or windbreak if you are less of a fan of sand. Zomertijd also has a beautiful terrace where you can have a delicious lunch and in the evening, while enjoying a glass of wine and a delicious dinner, watch the sun set into the sea.
Elements Beach
Elements Beach is a trendy beach bar that offers the perfect mix of relaxation and entertainment. With a breathtaking view of the North Sea, you can enjoy delicious dishes and drinks here while sitting with your feet in the sand. Whether you are looking for an extensive lunch, a nice drink or just a relaxing afternoon, Elements Beach never disappoints. Feel like a party? These are also held here regularly.
The seed
De Pit is located close to Elements Beach ! Here you can eat delicious pizzas straight from the brick oven. In addition, the Pit also offers fun activities such as yoga lessons on the beach and is also the starting point for surfing lessons from the Dutch Surf Academy . Tip: don't go to De Pit too late on a summer day, there are also nice beach beds on the terrace and there is plenty of entertainment for the kids.
Hoek van Holland
Did you know that Hoek van Holland is part of Rotterdam? From the center of Rotterdam, starting this year, you can take the subway that just barely drops you off in the sea. Ideal if you don’t have a car at your disposal. From here you can walk to the pier, where you can enjoy the big ships passing by. Do you have a car at your disposal? We at Palmtrees & Allergies are fans of the beach entrance at the Rechtestraat. It’s somewhat of a quieter beach with, in our opinion, cozier beach bars.
Mijn Torpedoloods
This unique place is not in the beach area but in a historic building in the center of Hoek van Holland. The building used to serve as a warehouse for torpedo boat fighters. The Torpedoloods has a view on the Berghaven. You can have lunch here in the summer and enjoy the boats passing by. In the evening, too, this is a good place for the most delicious fish and meat dishes. Would you like to stay overnight? That is also possible in the small-scale hotel!
PLSTK
PLSTK is by far Iris’ favorite beach club! You can find PLSTK near the parking lot of the Rechtestraat. From PLSTK you have a beautiful view over the dunes and the sea and there is often a nice breeze. On the menu you will also find seasonal dishes and in addition it is very well indicated which allergens can be found in each dish. That in turn is a must for Bianca and Reinier, for example!
Pele Surf Shack
If you are looking for a relaxed and informal atmosphere, Pele Surf Shack is the ideal place to go. With a laid-back beach vibe, colorful beach chairs and a menu full of delicious food, this beach shack offers the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sun and the beach. Be sure to try their surfer breakfast or one of their tasty smoothies for a refreshing start to your day. Or end your day with one of their delicious burgers!
