Posted on June 17, 2023
In recent years, Puglia has become increasingly popular among tourists. Not without reason, in addition to beautiful beaches, the region also has authentic southern Italian culture and very pleasant cities to offer. In 2017 we visited the region and in this blog, Puglia: be enchanted, we share general tips.
Bari
From Amsterdam we flew to Bari with Transavia in just 2.5 hours! Bari is the capital of Puglia. Here you can get lost in the narrow streets of the old town, known as Bari Vecchia. Admire the beautiful Romanesque cathedral and taste local specialties such as orecchiette (pasta) and fresh seafood in one of the many trattorias. Tip: sit on a bench and enjoy the real Italian life.
Oria
During our stay in Puglia we stayed in beautiful Oria . This town is located in the heart of Puglia, making it the perfect base to discover the region. Rent a car at Bari airport and discover the region.
Polignano a Mare
This quaint town was our favorite! Polignano a Mare is known for its beautiful cliffs and turquoise waters. Stroll through the cobbled streets and enjoy breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. Don't forget to visit the famous Lama Monachile beach, also known as Cala Porto. It is an ideal place to swim and relax while taking in the panoramic views of the surrounding rock formations and waving to the people enjoying the view on the cliffs
Monopoli
Monopoli, a charming port town, is rich in history, with its well-preserved medieval center and castle. Stroll through the picturesque streets and admire the historic buildings, such as the Cathedral of Maria Assunta. You certainly won't miss the Greek influences here! Don't forget to enjoy a delicious meal of fresh seafood at one of the many excellent seafood restaurants along the harbour.
Sant'Andrea
Brindisi
Brindisi , a historic port town, is a must-visit destination in Puglia. Explore the old center and admire the remains from Roman times, such as the Roman amphitheater. From here you can also visit the white city of Ostuni.
East uni
Love white streets, tiramisu and a lively market? Ostuni has it all. Wander around the town and end at Belvedere Square where you have a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea.
Alberobello & Trullis
No visit to Puglia is complete without a trip to Alberobello , a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the famous trulli. Trulli are unique limestone houses with conical roofs typical of this region. Stroll through the enchanting streets of the Trulli district and admire the architectural splendor of these unique structures. Make sure you don't leave Alberobello too late to avoid the huge crowds.
