On holiday with your dog: 5 Tips!

Posted on January 22, 2023

Last fall the time had come! We went on holiday with our dog for the first time. Cozy, our labradoodle went with us to the south of France by car. In this blog: on holiday with your dog: 5 tips!

1. Arrange in advance: Passport, chip and vaccinations

Just like people, dogs need their passports when they travel. So don't forget to pack this. In addition, a chip is also mandatory in the European Union. Finally, your dog must have a valid vaccination against rabies (rabies vaccination). Please note that in France the validity of a rabies vaccination is legally set at 1 year. Here in the Netherlands, rabies vaccinations are available and are valid for 3 years. Please note that people in France are not yet aware of this period of validity and may have questions. Read here what you can best do.

2. Safe and comfortable on the road

If you go on holiday by car, it is important that you can focus on the road. This means that your four-legged friend should not distract you. So ensure a safe situation by transporting your dog in a travel crate or by purchasing a special leash for the car .

In addition, it is nice that your dog is comfortable during the journey. You can purchase a special dog blanket for this or make sure you bring some blankets from home.

3. Car Sick & Airing!

Your dog may be carsick. Very annoying of course! Ensure ventilation during the car journey and, in case of severe motion sickness, make sure you visit the vet beforehand. The vet can prescribe special motion sickness pills. This can make the journey a little more bearable for your dog. In addition, plan in advance how many hours you want to stop and which places along the way are suitable for a longer walk with your dog.

4.    Enjoy your destination with your dog

Within Europe, very dog-friendly countries include Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Great Britain and France. We ourselves had a great experience in the south of France. Our dog was welcome at many restaurants. At campsite Le Domaine Des Naïades, too, everything was available to make a stay with a dog as pleasant as possible. Think of a gate to close off the terrace and plenty of opportunities to let the dog out.

5.    I’m going on holiday with dog and taking…

When you are going on a holiday with your dog, you need to pack the necessary things. We recommend bringing at least the following things:
